The Payment of Wages Act 1936

The Payment of Wages Act regulations the payment of wages to certain tp certain classes of persons employed in Industry and guarantees payment of wages on time without any deductions except authorized deductions listed in the act.
The act provides for the responsibility for payment of wages, fixation of wages period, time and mode of payment of wages, permissible deductions, to pay wages in cash or by cheques after taking written authorization, deduction from salary not to exceed 50% to maintain registers, abstracts, etc.
The act specifies penalties for violations of the provisions of this act and provisions for proceedings against employer where thepenalty to one month extendable upto six months or fine.
