Interstate Migrant Workers ( Regulation And A Conditions Of Service) Act 1979

The object of the act is to regulate employment of inter-state Migrant Workmen and to provide for their conditions of service and for matters connected therewith.It applies to establishment as well as contractors engaging five or more Interstate Migrant Workmen. The act provides Appointment of Registering Officers, Registration of establishment, appointment of Licensing Officers, Grant of Licenses to Contractors, specific duties of contractors, Wage rates and other conditions of service of Inter-State migrant Workmen, displacement Allowance, journey allowance, responsibility for payment of wages and other facilities, appointment of Inspectors, liability of Principal Employer. In the event of any contraventions of any provisions of this act, there are penal provisions punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to one year or with fine or with both.
